Privacy
Uke Flashcards is run by Chloe Dancey (dancey.net). Contact: support@dancey.net.
The site has no server of its own, no user accounts of its own, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising.
Microphone
When you start listening, the browser asks for microphone access. Sound is analysed in your browser to recognise chords. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
Stored in your browser
| What | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Flashcard progress, a backup made when you reset it, calibration | Keeps your progress and your instrument's sound between visits |
| Chosen microphone and input gate | Remembers your settings in this browser |
| The Google account you sync with, and the current sign-in token (until you close the tab) | Only if you sign in with Google: syncs without asking you to pick the account again |
This data stays on your device. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.
Syncing with Google Drive (optional)
The site contacts Google only after you click Sync with Google, and then on each visit until you disconnect. Your browser loads Google's sign-in script and asks Google for permission to:
- See your email address, to remember which account to sync with on this device.
- Store this site's own files in your Google Drive (the app-data folder). The site can see only the files it created there, not the rest of your Drive.
Your flashcard progress and calibration are then copied to that folder (flashcards.json, flashcards-backup.json, calibration.json). Your browser talks to Google directly; the site operator never receives your data or your email address. Google processes it under the Google Privacy Policy. The files stay in your Drive until you delete them (see below).
Uke Flashcards' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The legal basis is your request to sync (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Syncing is optional; everything works without it.
Removing your data
- Delete my data from Google Drive in the account menu (⋯) removes the site's files from your Drive and disconnects.
- Disconnect Google stops syncing and revokes the site's access; the files stay in your Drive.
- In Google Drive: Settings → Manage apps → dancey.net → Delete hidden app data. Access can also be removed at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Fonts are served from this site.
Emailing support
If you write to support@dancey.net, your email passes through Mailgun, the mail service for dancey.net, to the operator's inbox. Your address and message are used only to reply to you (GDPR Article 6(1)(f), the legitimate interest in answering) and are deleted once the matter is closed.
Transfers outside the EU
Google, GitHub and Mailgun are based in the United States and may process the data described above there, under their own privacy statements and transfer safeguards.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data, and complain to your data protection authority. Apart from support emails, the site operator holds no personal data about you; the data above is in your browser and, if you sync, in your Google account, where you control it directly.
